Key Takeaways

  • According to Yelp, tahini lattes are trending this month.
  • I tried the viral creation from Maman, and its nutty, rich flavor is worth the hype.
  • Our editors also re-created the viral drink at home and stood by the trend.

Yelp just released their trends report for April, and this month, there’s a caffeinated beverage that could dethrone matcha as the ultimate spring drink.

Meet the tahini latte: a latte enjoyed hot or iced with ground sesame paste mixed in. When comparing search volume from March 2024 to March 2025, Yelp saw a 678% increase for “tahini coffee” and a 900% increase for “tahini latte.”

If you’re skeptical about the trend, we want you to hear us out. This latte might just be worth the hype in all of its form, according to multiple EatingWell editors—including myself.

What Does a Tahini Latte Taste Like?

I got to try Maman’s viral Salted Tahini Honeycomb Latte (created by Maman's beverage director Caitlin Burke), which Yelp touts as one of the creations that helped cause the surge in search for the drink. The second I got this drink in my hands, I understood why the internet went berserk over it. It was gorgeous; garnished with sesame seeds and beautiful latte art, I was almost hesitant to ruin the design and give it a taste—emphasis on “almost.”

Tahini, being sesame-based, has a nutty, mildly savory flavor. And it’s complemented by the sweetness of milk in a latte, bringing a complexity to the coffee. With so many viral drinks being sickeningly sweet, this one felt like a breath of fresh air, and I looked forward to each sip.

If you have a Maman cafe near you, I definitely recommend trying this version of the trend. But if you don’t and I’m making you thirsty, a homemade tahini latte will promise the same pleasant flavor.

How to Make a Tahini Latte at Home

Our senior editor Megan Ginsberg first tried a tahini latte at a local coffee chain—and once she did, she knew she needed to replicate it at home as soon as possible.

“One of my favorite coffee drinks is the house latte at Tatte Bakery & Cafe, which has several locations in Massachusetts and D.C.,” Ginsberg says. “The house latte is flavored with honey, halva (a Middle Eastern candy made with tahini) and cardamom. I always order it decaf with oat milk. When we got an espresso machine at home, I went on a mission to re-create it.”

Instead of mixing tahini into the espresso or the milk, Ginsberg makes a simple syrup with the tahini for a sweet and savory balance in her coffee.

“I love the body and nuttiness the tahini adds to the coffee,” she raves. “And a sprinkle of cardamom on top is the perfect complement.”

Recently, our assistant general manager Penelope Wall also gave a homemade blended iced tahini latte a try. Here’s how she made it.

“I’ve been blending tahini into my iced coffee frappe for an occasional treat and love the rich, nutty flavor it adds. It reminds me of the tahini and halva ice cream sundae I get from a local restaurant—but not quite as rich,” Wall shares. “In my blender, I add cooled-down coffee, a splash of whole milk, a couple tablespoons of tahini, vanilla and some honey along with a handful of ice and blend until smooth.”

The Bottom Line

Tahini lattes are a spring beverage trend we’re absolutely standing by, whether the drink is from your local coffee shop or mixed up at home. Plus, tahini is an energy-dense food that’s loaded with healthy fats, so the ingredient can actually enhance your morning pick-me-up. We also love tahini in highly rated recipes like our Lemon-Tahini Dressing and our Tahini Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies.
