We caught up with her to talk about her upcoming documentary She Runs the World, her favorite walking shoes and her new “Snack Hero” partnership with Danimals. Read the full exclusive interview below.

Your new documentary is premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival. Was there a moment during filming that felt especially emotional or reminded you why you wanted to share your story this way?

Absolutely. There were so many emotional moments. The whole process of looking back on everything was powerful. One that stands out was at the USC track, which is now named after me. My family was there, including my daughter, and it just felt really special—like a full-circle moment. That track is where a lot of my journey began. It made me pause and reflect on everything I’ve been through and everything I’ve fought for.

You’re known for being active, and our audience loves walking. Do you have a favorite walking shoe?

I love walking, too—it’s so good for you. At Saysh, our Felix Runner is one of my go-to walking shoes. It offers great support, stability and cushioning. We also just released the Evelyn Runner, which feels more like a sock. It conforms to your foot but still has that same level of cushioning. Both are amazing options if you’re trying to get your steps in.

What does your walking routine look like these days?

We’ve started doing family walks almost every day. We live in a hilly neighborhood, so it’s a walk—but also a workout. It’s a great way for us to spend time together and stay active as a family.

When life gets busy, what’s your go-to high-protein meal?

I love the air fryer! I’ll toss in salmon and some veggies and have a quick, nutritious meal in no time. It makes eating healthy so much easier when things are hectic.

What do you love about Danimals, and is it something your daughter enjoys?

This partnership feels really authentic to me. It’s all about being a “snack hero” for parents and having something ready when your kid is hungry and you’re in a pinch. Every day when I pick up my daughter from school, the first thing she asks is, “Do you have a snack for me?” Now I love pulling out a Danimals smoothie and knowing it’s packed with calcium and vitamin D. She loves the flavors, and I feel good about giving her something nutritious. Danimals is treating parents and kids to get up to $15 worth of snacks on us by ordering Danimals through Instacart with the code SNACKHERO-15.

How has your approach to fitness evolved now that you’re balancing motherhood, your business and advocacy work?

It’s changed a lot. Back in the day, everything revolved around training. Now, it doesn’t. These days, I usually work out early in the morning. I love strength training and take classes at my local gym. After the kids go to bed, my husband and I often do a home workout together, whether it’s on the treadmill or the bike. It’s a great way for us to connect, too.

Do you have any wellness habits that help you recharge?

Time to myself is so important. I start my day with a gratitude journal and a bit of meditation just before the house wakes up. It grounds me and helps me feel centered. When I skip it, I really notice the difference.

Were there any nutrition habits you relied on during your training days that you still follow now?

Meal prep and planning, for sure. I love food and never want to feel like I have to give things up, but I focus on balance. I try to make sure my plate is colorful and nourishing. Prepping ahead helps me stay on track—otherwise, when I’m tired or overwhelmed, it’s easy to make choices I don’t feel great about.
