When Minaj hung out with the folks at Vogue for a round of their “73 Questions” game, she shared that if she could only eat one thing from a bodega for the rest of her life, it would be a classic sandwich. Lucky for Minaj fans, she even broke down exactly how she orders her sammie. Nicki keeps the order pretty simple, and we’ve got to respect it. We’d say any meal with 15 grams of protein or more per serving is high-protein, so this sandwich would definitely make the cut. That protein can be super helpful for folks trying to gain muscle mass or even those raising their protein intake during pregnancy. Plus, that extra protein can also help you stay energized through a long day and make your lunch more satisfying. And you’re not just getting a whopping serving of protein out of this sandwich. With lots of veggies packed into every bite, you’re getting a pretty well-rounded meal, especially for something handheld that you can pick up on the go. The lettuce, jalapeños and tomatoes all add tasty flavor and texture—though spice-averse folks may want to get banana peppers rather than jalapeños. The drizzle of olive oil and vinegar can be pretty good for you, too. The acetic acid that gives vinegars their deliciously sour flavor can help minimize blood sugar spikes, which can help keep your energy levels consistent for longer after eating. And olive oil is a go-to heart-healthy, anti-inflammatory fat that adds flavor and moisture to a great deli sandwich. Folks who need to watch their sodium intake—like those at risk of a cardiovascular disease—may want to skip the extra salt, but the black pepper is another flavor-boosting ingredient with a healthful bonus. Black peppercorns can have an anti-inflammatory effect, helping you tamp down chronic inflammation in the body. Get this sandwich on whole-wheat bread, and you’ll have a delish, filling sandwich on your hands. Related: Understanding Acute vs. Chronic Inflammation: What's Healthy and What's Harmful?
